Meet Alison Shapiro
I’ve been a designer my whole life. Growing up in houses that were always being renovated meant I was often swinging a hammer or learning how to patch and prime before repainting my room. Having an understanding of and appreciation for the building process led to a hands-on lifestyle that I still practice. Whether it's creating foraged floral arrangements or decorating homemade truffles, I’m organized and focused on function and aesthetic balance. Combining those technical skills with creativity has become a second language. After decorating my first apartments as a young adult I realized how important design was to me - and that I was good at it. Positive feedback from family and friends inspired me to refine my abilities and prepare to enter the design community professionally. I studied Interior Architecture and Design at the Academy of Art University with diligence and received honors.
My career began with six robust years at a kitchen and bath design firm. I started as an apprentice and quickly rose to be the top salesperson, experienced project manager, and trusted professional. It was an invaluable time when I developed expertise. My organizational skills and attention to detail touched every aspect of the work - the design process and documentation, managing the showroom, project management, and customer service. The relationships built with coworkers, clients, tradesmen, and suppliers were reliable and productive. We also had fun. I used my talents to work on additional projects in my spare time and eventually started my own business. I continue to consult on whole-house and select commercial projects. I’ve proudly been supporting greater Pittsburgh area residences through design and renovation for over a decade.
